NCA Nationals 2010 Day 2- Bitches

Day two of the NCA Nationals was spent huddled underneath a tent swaddled in layers of rain gear trying to stay warm and dry.  It rained all day and I really have to admire all the handlers for being so professional while showing in horrible conditions, and knowing that all the grooming the day before and that day was being ruined the minute they stepped out from under the tent.  Here's Foyle's sister, Hope, in the 12-18 month class. She's has nice proportions, a beautiful head and made the first cut!

There seemed to be more of a range of type and structure in the bitches than the dogs and maybe that is typical for Newfoundlands but it was good to see that variety to make comparisons.  We were a little shocked by the judging that day when she pulled out dogs that were obviously limping and/or hurt and I don't think that she pulled out the best movement in the classes, but someone mentioned that when you saw the final lineup you tell she had a specific look she was after.  She did take her time, even in the rain, and made several cuts before she found exactly what she wanted. I was just too cold to make it to the bitter end and had to go inside to thaw out for a bit but when I saw the WB come out on Saturday I thought she made a great choice, she glided across the ring and had a beautiful feminine, but broad head.
