I started in on today’s Snackerday cookies and the Mr. walks into the kitchen and asks “Are these dog cookies or human cookies?”. In our house you never know so it is always a good thing to ask first before eating. Well, since it is the holidays I decided that today’s post would be about human cookies after seeing Sugar Lane Bake Shop’s dachshund cookies on Etsy this week. I am humbled by the way they decorate their dog cookies and I wish I had the time to practice more to make mine look as good as theirs. Well, I gave it a shot today and after eating 2 cookies myself I think they turned out pretty well.
The recipe I used is from my favorite cookie book Cookie Craft and there’s a slight twist to it with the orange peel which makes the biggest difference in the taste. If you are a beginner at cookie decorating like I am then this book is a must have for your collection. It has 4 sugar cookie recipes that are great for freezing if you want to make a large quantity at once, and then they tell you exactly how to make your own icing and several examples on how to decorate different shaped cookies.
There are so many gingerbread recipes out there so here are a few that look really tasty for you to try out:
- The Most Wonderful Gingerbread Cookies
- Spicy Gingerbread Cookies from Smitten Kitchen
- Honey Spice Gingerbread Cookies from Martha Stewart
- Gingerbread Cookies from Berry Lovely (metric)
- Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies from Good Life Eats
- Gingerbread Man Cookies (on sticks) from 101 Cookbooks
Make a few extra for your friends and enjoy your holidays!
