Fall has finally arrived in Northern California! Foyle decided to celebrate today on our walk by accumulating a nice collection of leaves in the strands of his drool that just swung in the air when he moved his head around; the canine equivalent of jumping into a pile of leaves I think!
All of us here at NewfandHound have been waiting for cooler weather to arrive, especially Foyle who perks up and seems to tap into an unknown reservoir of energy when temperatures drop. I noticed it on our walk this morning when he lead the group the entire way instead of dragging behind and stopping at every water fountain in the park. The dachshunds love to dive under the blankets and curl up in the bend of your legs at night, or bask in the warm sun on a cool day. Life is good in the fall.
As for me, I love the brisk mornings and being able to layer in all the clothes that have been hiding in the back of my closet....especially the boots! You have to admit ladies, it's nice to be able to wear tights again (you know what I mean!)
What I'd really like to do this fall though is head up to Sonoma to the Kunde Family Estate and go on a Dog Hike tour through their winery! I'm not sure we could make the entire 4 hours of hiking with Foyle's legs but I would really like to learn more about sustainable winegrowing practices. According to the schedule we still have a few more chances to get up there in the next few months so it's definitely going on our "to do" list this year!
Do you have a special fall ritual that you like to do with your dogs or your family?
