The picture above shows exactly why I chose a Newfoundland to join our family. I did over two years of research until deciding on Newfoundlands and I haven't regretted it for a minute. Foyle is the sweetest, goofiest, biggest love of a dog and I can't imagine having any other breed to come into our family. He's been with the dachshunds since he was 11 weeks old and he considers himself a little dog at times- trying to fit into their dog beds, using their stairs and ramps, and protecting them from danger when necessary. It is a perfect fit. Case in point- the photo on the right. This is Foyle's bed in my office and the other night Nooner decided that she would wait on his bed until I got up to give her a treat. Foyle walked in, looked at her, looked at me, and instead of kicking her out of his bed he laid down right next to it. Big deferred to little. That's why I love my boy.
If you have a big dog/little dog family tell me how they get along! Was it a hard adjustment at first? Do they hang out together? What are your issues, if any, having both sizes in the same house? Did you do an introduction prior to bringing your dog into the family first? I'm curious!
