What are cats doing on NewfandHound as our Friday's Friend? Well, Charlie and Thunderella are two very lucky cats because they had a habitat made by the talented team of architects at William Duff Architects, Inc. and contractors at Matarozzi Pelsinger Builders. We get the inside scoop on this years entry for PAWS (Pets are Wonderful Support) yearly event, Petchitecture!
PAWS is a wonderful group that helps people throughout San Francisco keep their pets in their homes if they are elderly or ill, and as we all know having a pet brings comfort and companionship and can help facilitate the healing process. Every year they hold a fundraising event, called Petchitecture, and invite several local architects and design firms to design a pet habitat that is either raffled off or sponsored for a particular animal(s).
This year William Duff Architects designed the Catberney Lounge for their sponsor cats, Charlie and Thunderella, who's parents are wine consultants. How could you not go with a wine theme for the design?
Wine barrels served as the base and platform of the lounge, while a bag of mementos containing wine corks, champagne cages, corkscrews and wine stoppers were cast into resin to create the center support between the upper perch and the base. You can see the finished lounge on the top picture.
If you'd like to come and see the other habitats and support all the amazing work that PAWS does each year, please join the event on Sunday, May 5th, at the St. Regis from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. You can find tickets here! Please come find NewfandHound and say "hi"! Just look for the big, drooling Newfie!
