I came across an interesting circumstance yesterday when I was photographing Julia and Ru from Canines and Couture yesterday at a local museum. We got in "trouble" for taking pictures within the courtyard of a museum because it was considered a gallery space and according to the museum's rules you aren't allowed to take professional (wow, I was called a professional photographer! ha!) pictures without permission. Yet, you are allowed to take your own pictures of the outdoor galleries and sculptures for personal use though. Huh? So if Julia was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt then we would be allowed to take pictures? Confusing in a way, but we were respectful and the security guard was very polite about it so we moved out of the space.
This prompted me to read through a few articles on photographers' rights so I know what I'm legally allowed to take pictures of and where I can or can't take pictures in public that I thought I would share with you today. We all take our dogs out in public spaces so it's important to know your rights if you are taking photographs: (These links are informational only, laws may vary according to state and country)
