One of my guilty pleasures is getting up early in the morning on the weekends and sneaking out of the house with one or two of the dogs and going out for coffee and a bite to eat. I love how quite and peaceful neighborhoods are and how you can navigate through public spaces without running into people and having them comment on your "bear" dog. Sometimes it's just nice to hang out with your dogs and enjoy their company and actually finish a cup of coffee while it is hot!
Well last Saturday I took Hazel and Foyle down to Emeryville which is a small city between Oakland and Berkeley that has a few funky, historic brick buildings which is kind of hard to find in the Bay area. I found two loading docks that I thought would be fun to take pictures on so we jumped out of the car and spent some time taking a few shots for practice.
I was hoping to catch the morning sun but quickly realized that the building across the street cast too much of a shadow, so we worked with what lighting was available and made the most of our time.
The best part was just walking around the streets looking at all the amazing hidden alleyways that have been turned into gardens, and the historic industrial buildings that grew up next to the railroad station. Then there was the smell of roasting coffee from Highwire Coffee Roasters filling the air and calling our name! It was a great morning and I still had the rest of the day left open to run errands and relax!
Do you have a weekend ritual that you do with your dogs?
