Welcome to the Black and White Sunday blog hop! Today is a special day for NewfandHound because we have been posting our black and white pictures for a year now! Wow, an entire year! So I owe a very special thank you to our hosts, My Life In Blog Years and Dachshund Nola for taking me down the fascinating and incredibly fun path of photography. I feel that this blog hop has opened new doors for me and I can't wait to take this hobby even further in the next 52 weeks!
So for week 52 I'm going to break the rules a bit and include two black and white photos instead of one because I really couldn't chose which one I liked better! Hope you don't mind!
For this week's tip I really want to tell you to pick up the book A Creative Guide To Modern Pet Photography by Jamie Pflughoeft of the blog Beautiful Beasties and the business Cowbelly Pet Photography. No, this is not a paid review or anything of the sorts, I just want to tell you that this is the best book I've found on how to photograph pets by far! You will not only fall in love with Jamie's pictures but find that she has the easiest to understand explanation of ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed, plus she takes you through determining what gear you will want to look at buying, how to read animal behavior, lighting, and the post production process. Everything that you need to think about if you want to improve your pet photography, all the little extras that you never would have thought about. (like contracts, model releases, and common challenges you'll run into)
If you are getting more serious about taking pictures of your pet(s) for your blog or are even thinking of expanding into starting your own pet photography business then this is one book that has to be in your library! Within a week it had me composing and modifying my settings in a completely different way and is really helping me to find a style that I can call my own!
