Every Sunday after our dog walk I head over to Artis on 4th Street in Berkeley with my friends to enjoy an amazing cup of coffee and to kick back and catch up on what's been going on over the past week. The shop is quickly becoming known among the dog crowd for being incredibly dog friendly, and we love meeting all the dogs and their people while we sit outside along the walkway. (Perfect place to people watch by the way!) This past Sunday we saw this cute little guy, T-Bone, as we were walking up to save a few seats, just enjoying the scenery and hanging out with his person outside.
I love his scruffy face and the way his hair flops over his eyes, one of them which was apparently removed before he was adopted. He has only been with his person a few years but the think he is 10-11 years old. But he was a sweet model and such a good sport for me, it was fun taking pictures and the light was perfect for his white coat! His parent was such a good sport and let me snap away as he was enjoying his coffee and book.
We always seem to be taking up most of the sidewalk with our pack so I apologize to anyone trying to get by the multiple legs sticking out past our table. We try and be polite and get the dogs out of the way as much as possible, I swear. Do you ever have that problem out in public?
Well, there was one person who didn't mind them being in the sidewalk and came over to say "hi" to the gang! Aki enjoyed getting all the attention from a group of bicyclists who rode all the way in from Albany, claiming at 20 miles or so it was a "short" ride that morning. But I swear the coffee at Artis is worth going the extra mile. Not only do they have the best coffee on 4th Street but they also rock a pretty good mix of music, and it's a great place to hang out and work on your laptop.
They roast all their beans on site and focus on varieties that are sustainably harvested with socially responsible business practices. It's fun to peruse their extensive collection of brewing devices and you can learn more about brewing coffee the "correct" way (which is whatever way you like best) on their website. You can even take a quiz on their home page to find out what your perfect flavor of beans would be! I'm tempted to get a hand bur grinder similar to this one next week after seeing one in the movie The Book Thief that they had screwed to the wall. Crazy I know, but it seemed kind of cool...and convenient. For some reason I hate the automatic grinder we have, it seems like such effort at 5:30 in the morning!
All this talk of coffee is making me thirsty so I'm off to brew a cup of my own now! Enjoy your day!
