If there ever was a more perfect combination of beauty and brawn then Captain, the Newfoundland, would surely fit the description! A few weeks ago the Newfoundland Club of Northern California had their fall water test and I was lucky enough to get asked to go down to Del Valle Regional Park and photograph the handlers and their dogs during the test. But what I realized on Saturday that the lake and the light in the early morning would be the perfect place to take some more casual photographs! Soft light, mist rising from the lake, I couldn't ask for more especially when shooting a black coated dog!
But Captain is extra special, maybe because he reminds me of Foyle so much. He's such a sweet, loving, happy dog! But Captain is a big boy, much bigger than Foyle was and I realized how much I miss having that massive head hanging around the house, and that cute swing of the bum while walking. I have to applaud Captain because he also earned his Water Rescue Dog title that weekend too! He was flawless and it was so beautiful to watch him work through each exercise which challenged his abilities to swim out and bring items back to shore, jump from a boat into the water, and pull people and a boat back into shore. He truly is beauty and brawn all rolled into one! Love this big head!
