This week on my Dogs of Artis series we have this gorgeous Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Pinot, that we met a few weeks ago after our walk! Who could resist photographing that sweet face and diving into that fur? Not me, so I had to ask if I could take a few pictures of him for the series and his humans were nice enough to oblige.
I have never met this breed in person so I had to do some research to learn more about them out of curiosity. The breed originated in Ireland as a multi-purpose dog for the farmers, patrolling the farms and ridding the barns of vermin. They also herded sheep and went hunting with their farmers. Quite the versatile breed! Also interesting is that they are born black and stay that way as puppies, but lighten up to their adult wheaten color around the age of two.
