This weekend was the perfect weekend to stay inside and try out some new Snackerday recipes and I think I've hit on the easiest recipe that you could tackle, ever! It's not even a tackle, it's more like a high-five and you are done kind of a treat. Just mix and bake until they are dry! (just don't forget they are in the oven!) It would be hard to beat a treat as healthy as these, and they are great for filling those treat balls that always seem to have the smallest holes. You can download the Crispy Beans & Carrots recipe here!
All you need are three ingredients: Frozen green beans, frozen carrots (the crinkle cross cut was the smallest I could find), and olive oil. I added Italian herbs for a little more flavor but you don't have to, just make sure that if you do it is safe for dogs to eat. You can find a list of foods that are toxic to dogs here at the ASPCA site.
Preheat oven to 170 or the lowest temperature that your oven will go. Work with the frozen green beans and carrots in different bowls because they will dry at different rates. Combine green beans and 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1/2 of the herbs until coated. In a separate bowl combine carrots and the rest of the olive oil and green beans until coated. That's it! Cook in the oven 6-8 hours or until the vegetables are crispy and crunchy but not burnt. Cool on the tray and place in an airtight container, place in the refrigerator and use within a week.
As always if your dog has particular dietary needs or allergies please consult with your veterinarian before feeding him/her these snacks!
