Welcome to the New Year! It's hard to believe we're back at the beginning of a new year with new possibilities, new goals, and new adventures for 2016. It's exciting to start fresh and take a look back at the previous year to see what moments and adventures made an impact on your life, our big moment was adopting Cody back in March and in December we both made giant career leaps by deciding to accept new job offers in San Francisco! Now that's a way to go out with a bang!
I'm still pushing forward with the photography business and I feel like I'm finally getting into a groove with my style and my editing, but this year I'm definitely going to be more focused on building my business and providing a more unique and personal experience for my clients. My goals are to do more location hunting throughout the Bay area, photograph more events, and develop a distinctive, boutique session for my clients. Just because I have a new job outside the photography world does not mean I'm not dedicated to moving the business forward! It's the way it is to be able to live in the Bay area, but I'm determined to keep moving and improving in all areas of photography this year!
So how do you set goals for the year? Do you plan it all out on a yearly calendar, start a journal, or set a reminder in your phone? I'd love to hear how you set yourself up for success! Personally, there are so many goals I have for 2016 that I have to narrow it down to my "Top 3" in order to not get overwhelmed, upset, and disappointed by the end of January. But here are my Top 3:
- Travel to a new location every 6 months: Once I saw that I have over 4 weeks of vacation saved up at work I realized that I'm not taking the time off that I need to recharge, experience new places and people, and enjoy life. So I've promised myself that I will get out of California every 6 months (at least) to photograph a new destination, meet new people or see old friends, and relax.
- Establish a healthy fitness & eating routine: As you get older you realize that getting fit isn't as much about fitting into those skinny jeans, but suddenly about avoiding major health problems and surgery. Seriously! Years sitting in a chair has ravaged my back and flexibility, and eating poorly has definitely had an effect on my energy level. Time to think about the long term impact a healthier lifestyle will offer me in the future.
- Take Cody to an obedience class or a personal trainer: Cody has improved so much since we adopted him, we can take him on walks, take him to new places, and he loves playing with toys now. What he doesn't love is other dogs and coming back to a recall which is causing a big problem in public. When he reacts, the girls pack together and vice versa, so he's starting to be aggressive with other dogs which I do not like at all! So I think setting him up with a few classes and getting him around more dogs of all sizes will help that quite a bit and make him more comfortable.
There are so many more on my list but these are the three that I want to accomplish that will make a big impact on our lives this year. How about you? What goals do you have in mind for 2016?
