I think by now you realize that I love, love, love Newfoundlands and can't stop photographing them every chance I get! Obvious, isn't it? They have a personality that is as large as they are and are so incredibly sweet and devoted that it is always such a pleasure to work with this breed. Early in May I met my friend Randy and her two Newfoundlands, Jeter and Jobs, in Carmel for a morning session downtown with the boys.
I hadn't been to Carmel for years and I had forgotten how close it really is to the Bay area so we ended up making it a weekend get-away at the same time! We drove down on a Saturday morning and spent the day enjoying the fairy tale cottages, shopping at Diggidy Dog, and scoping out areas around town that would work with black dogs in particular. Plus, it's a bonus when you can end the session with a trip to the beach for some play time to wrap up a fun day!
I have photographed Jeter several times for draft tests and water tests, but this was my first time meeting Jobs so I wasn't sure what to expect from his personality but here is what I found out: he's an incredible momma's boy, he's such a happy dog, and he's freakishly strong! So we tried to capture his youth and his enormous stature. Jeter is older, not as mobile, and low energy so each time he threw his "side look" with those eyes we knew we had a keeper! The only challenging part was trying to continue to photograph when so many people were stopping to pet the dogs and to ask if they could take pictures too. They are quite the unusual pair but I think I got the best pictures! (wink, wink!)
Join us at the beach tomorrow!
