Sundays are made for browsing and lounging, and when you find a gem of a book like Your Dog and My Dog by Tony Wons then it makes Sunday lounging all the better! The Mr. went to Alameda Flea Market last weekend which is the flea market to go to in the Bay area, with acres of booths filled with amazing finds provided you take the time to search down every row, and came back with this gem. Luckily for me this book was one of the first items that he came across and he was nice enough to pick it up for my vintage dog book collection.
I am obsessed with vintage dog graphics, and if they include a dachshund it's a bonus for me, but Your Dog and My Dog was even more of an exciting find because it is filled with poems, quotes, and stories that I have never seen before online! Tony Wons was a radio show host during the Depression who started to collect inspirational works in a scrapbook while he was recovering in a hospital. His collections evolved into a printed series of "scrapbooks" and Your Dog and My Dog published in 1932 was part of a his Famous Radio Scrap Book series. Some poems were awarded a prize of honorable mention in Dog World's poetry contest!
This book contains page after page of sweet, heartbreaking poems and pictures like the one below that will bring tears to your eyes and make your want to curl up with your dog on the couch and stare deeply into his or her eyes!.
Here are two of my favorites, Irresistible by Elizabeth Caswell and Worship by Foster Williams:
Sweet, isn't it? More to come in the future. they are too good not to share!
